February 7, 2023, Wayne County Probation participated in the Expungement Event with Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana Legal Services, and Whitewater Valley Pro Bono, which provided education and assistance to 72 individuals seeking expungement.

Topics discussed during the event:

  • Am I eligible for expungement?
  • How can expungement help me?
  • How can I start the process?

Facts about expungement in Indiana:

  • 90% of all offenses in Wayne County will eventually be eligible for expungement
  • Dismissed cases and records on completed diversion programs are eligible for expungement 1 year after the date of arrest
  • Misdemeanor cases are eligible 5 years after the date of the most recent conviction
  • Most felony cases are eligible for expungement 8 years after the most recent conviction

Convictions can continue to affect a person’s life years after serving their sentence. If your legal history creates barriers for you, seek legal advice to determine eligibility for expungement.

In some situations, you may receive free legal assistance.
